JOAO GARCIA CONQUERED BROAD PEAK (8047M)
20th July, 2008
As a part of the “Conquering the World’s Summits” Project, sponsored by Millennium bcp, Joao Garcia conquered Broad Peak, he’s 11º eigth-thousander in a personal “record time” expedition. He arrived at base camp on the 5th July and summated on the 17 th.
At 17 th, late at night by a satellite phone call to Portugal, Joao Garcia voice doesn’t hid his exhaustion but also the joy for having reach the summit of Broad Peak.
“It’s was tough, I was really tired, at the final part we took more then 5 hours climbing, there was lot’s of ice between the secondary summit and principal one, we reach the real summit (8047m) very late, but it’s done!”
Only 15 days after having returned to Portugal, Joao Garcia, with the support of Millennium bcp, leaves for Pakistan on 24th June where he will join an international expedition that will attempt to climb Mount Broad Peak (8.047m).
The change in the schedule of the project consists in switching the autumn climbing season in the Himalayas with the summer climbing season in the Karakorum Mountains.
This way, Joao Garcia would like to avoid the increasingly prolonged effects of the post-Monsoon season, which has been making climbs more difficult in the autumn.

MAKALU (8463m)
20th May, 2008
As a part of the “Conquering the World’s Summits” Project, sponsored by Millennium bcp, I climbed to the summit of Mt. Makalu yesterday at 11 o’clock in the morning. At 8.463 meters high, it is the fifth highest mountain in the world. It was a difficult ascent, with freezing temperatures and strong winds during the final stage. Despite the hard climb, the magnificent views of Everest and the other Himalayan giants were well worth it.
Now, in the comfort and safety of Base Camp, I'd like to thank all those that are helping me with the project as well as those who have left me messages, which I will now check on the expedition's official blog website.
Thank you all!
